The Case of the Daycare Center
The daycare center had a reoccurring problem of parents showing up late to pick up their kids. The staff needed to find a way to reduce late pick-ups so that they did not have to stay late every night and accrue overtime. The director of the daycare center heard about pdqSMART which allowed people to unlock doors with their smartphone. Since the parents carried smart phones, it would be easy for them to gain access to the locked daycare building.
The unexpected benefit for the Daycare was that they now had positive confirmation about when a parent picked up their child each day. Every Monday they export an event log from the pdqSMART Portal to see if any parents were late picking up their child the previous week. Given the ability to show parents a tracking record of their pick-up history helped to reduce the number of late pick-ups.
